21 more issues of Compute! magazine posted online

Our friends at AtariMagazines.com have posted the full text of 21 more issues of the classic Compute! magazine on their web site. Published from 1979 through 1994, Compute! was a multiplatform computer magazine covering Atari, Apple II, Commodore, Texas Instruments, Timex/Sinclair, and many other early personal computers.

Virtual ][ for Mac OS X updated to version 5.3

Gerard Putter has updated his excellent 8-bit Apple II emulator, Virtual ][ to version 5.3. The new version is now scriptable using AppleScript, and includes a number of sample scripts that demonstrate features of the software. In addition, there’s a new menu command to safe a screenshot of the emulated Apple II in TIFF format.

Universal Binary Sweet16 coming to Mac OS X!

Eric Shepherd announced this week that he’s finally made arrangements to release his Mac OS X port of the Sweet16 Apple IIgs emulator. As a Universal Binary, it runs on both PowerPC and Intel Mac systems, and provides a number of nice features including support for printing from desktop applications to the Mac’s Preview application, which can then save the document in a variety of formats or print to any Mac-compatible printer. Pricing has not been announced yet, but the release is expected at KansasFest in late July.

ADTPro needs beta testers

ADTPro is a ProDOS variant of the popular disk image transfer program ADT. It features a server written in Java and compatibility with all major Apple II disk image formats.

Juiced.GS Volume 11, Issue 2 on its way to subscribers

Syndicomm announced this morning that Volume 11, Issue 2 of Juiced.GS magazine has started mailing, with the first of two batches of subscribers’ copies being mailed today and the rest planned to go out tomorrow.The new issue includes a preview of Ewen Wannop’s new SAFE 2 FTP program, reviews of the Semi-Virtual Disk and DiskMaker 8, and much more.

Usenet newsgroup comp.sources.apple2 also up for removal

The Big-8 Management Board has initiated RFD procedures to discontinue the comp.sources.apple2 usenet newsgroup due to inactivity (just as comp.binaries.apple2 was earlier this month).
