GNO Apple II Archive online again

The GNO Apple II Archive has been offline while the Trenco network undergoes reorganization. By popular request, Devin Reade has made the archive available again while everything is being migrated to the new server.

Sweet16 1.7.2 Apple IIgs emulator for Mac OS X released

Eric Shepherd has released Sweet16 1.7.2, the latest version of the Apple IIgs emulator for Mac OS X. The new version fixes a bug that prevented writing to 5.25″ disk images, and lets you mount multiple disks at a time by dragging a number of images at once into the Disks window.

Virtual ][ for Mac OS X updated to version 5.4

Gerard Putter has updated his excellent 8-bit Apple II emulator, Virtual ][ to version 5.4.

What’s new in version 5.4

  • Added emulation of the Thunderclock card, and made it the default clock card for all virtual machine types.
  • The old “ProDos clock card” is now obsolete. It is still supported, but can no longer be selected in a new configuration.
  • Added emulation of the the Saturn 128K memory card.
  • Improved the support for international keyboards.
  • Added additional Apple II character sets: British, French, German, Itialian and Swedish.
  • Adjusted the Apple //e character set, to eliminate some minor differences with the characters in the original machine.
  • Added an AppleScript property to get the path of the configured favorite disk folder.
  • The RAMWorks card can now be configured in increments of 64KB (was 128KB).
  • The 16K RAM card can now be inserted in all slots, not only slot 0.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented 2img disk images from being recognized on an Intel Mac.
  • The “generic printer card”, which has been obsolete since version 3.4, is no longer supported. It has been replaced
    by the Grappler+ card and the serial printer card.

Syndicomm posts GS+ Volume 2 and 3 CDs on online store

Syndicomm has finally added The Definitive GS+: Volume Two and The Definitive GS+: Volume Three to its online store, after releasing both products at KansasFest. These two products contain the second and third years, respectively, of GS+ Magazine in painstakingly-reproduced, searchable, PDF format.

Wozniak to judge Mac programming contest

Steve Wozniak has joined the judge’s panel of My Dream App, a competition that is a cross between American Idol and HackFest, wherein Mac users have five weeks to develop a killer app. Other judges include David Pogue and Guy Kawasaki.

Sweet16 emulator updated to version 1.7.1

Eric Shepherd tonight released version 1.7.1 of Sweet16, the recently-released Apple IIgs emulator for Mac OS X. The new feature includes a couple of modest new features and fixes a slough of bugs. A complete list of the fixes is available on the Sweet16 web page.

Sweet16 version 1.7 released

Sweet16, the new Apple IIgs emulator for Mac OS X, has been updated again, this time to version 1.7. The new version has a bunch of changes, including fixes for some (but admittedly not all) of the most-reported issues. Performance on PowerPC systems is also much improved.A complete list of the changes follows:

  • Added support for Unicode path and filenames, which improves compatibility with non-US systems.
  • Removed erroneous explanation of how to register Sweet16 from the documentation — Sweet16 is freeware.
  • Fixed the speed control checkbox in the preference window to actually work.
  • Added a preference that lets you disable the mouse when in text modes.
  • Appropriate sound effects now play when ejecting floppy disk images.
  • The text in the online disks window is now in the font Lucida Grande.
  • Optimized the PowerPC code to run up to 30% faster than in previous versions of Sweet16.
  • Improved compatibility with DiskCopy 4.2 images.
