Shadowgate was a point-and-click adventure game originally released in 1987 for the Macintosh and in 1989 for the Apple IIGS and, most popularly, the Nintendo Entertainment System. In 2014, the original developers released a reimagining of the game, as seen in Juiced.GS‘s interview with Karl Roelofs of Zojoi Games.

Today, Zojoi Games launched their Kickstarter for a sequel to the original 8-bit game. Shadowgate Beyond boasts four times the rooms, three times the puzzles, six times the NPCs, and four times the deaths of the first Shadowgate. The sequel will ship in September 2023 for PC only; a playable demo is available today.

Update: The Kickstarter achieved its funding goal of US$25,000 in the first four hours, which means it will successfully conclude on 20 March 2023. All further pledges will count toward stretch goals, which include bonus content for Zojoi Games’ other classic point-and-click adventures, The Uninvited and Déjà vu.

Full disclosure: the author of this post has backed this and other Kickstarters by Zojoi Games.
