We’ve begun making some enhancements to the look and feel of the a2central.com site. This will come in two or three stages over the upcoming couple of months. The first stage is currently in progress. The first improvement is a simplified list of options to the left, and an improved selection at the top of the page as well, with larger and more readable buttons. Also, the buttons now highlight when you mouse over them, to help make them stand out better. If you see any problems with the site caused by this upgrade, please let us know. .
Shareware Solutions II announced today that Spectrum is now available for purchase through their online store. In addition, upgrades to the new Spectrum 2.4 may be purchased for a small fee (with proof of purchase). The full version of Spectrum is $35 and may be purchased on either 3.5″ disk or CD-ROM; prices for upgrades vary depending on the version you currently own. .

Jeff Fink has announced the upcoming release of Silvern Castle 5.2. The new version’s tome viewer returns to the search screen after exiting Dogpaw instead of going back to the extras menu. Also, the requirement to ask for registration instructions is gone (Jeff is getting frustrated by the lack of feedback on the game?if you play it, please let him know what you think!). Adds the Tome of Arcana?hints, tips, and reviews from Delphi’s A2 forum and Juiced.GS. In addition, BASIC.SYSTEM 1.4.1 is supported (some people have problems with 1.5), and startup has been sped up. .

A2Central.com has an RC5-64 cracking team, cleverly called Team A2Central.com. This contest is designed as an experiment in large-scale parallel computing projects over the Internet. Vast numbers of home computers, running a special program in the background, work to solve small portions of a large mathematical problem. In this case, to decrypt an encrypted message without knowing the key?the password that was used to encrypt the message. If you’d like to contribute, download the client software for your computer (there’s no Apple II client, unfortunately), configure and run it, and then, after you appear in the RC5 statistics, click the “I want to join this team” link at the bottom of the Team A2Central.com statistics page.
