Jason Scott has taken to Facebook to announce the inclusion of Apple IIGS and //e emulation into the JSMESS site.

The Javascript MESS (JSMESS) project is dedicated to porting the MESS emulator to the Javascript language, so that many gaming consoles and classic computers can be emulated from within a web browser.

It’s all in beta now with the inevitable glitches, but the early results are good and getting better all the time. Be sure to check it out.

Ivan Drucker updates A2Cloud

A2Cloud is now out of testing and has reached it’s first official release. Users of the prior beta release are encouraged to download the new version at: http://appleii.ivanx.com/prnumber6/category/a2cloud/

Per Ivan’s site, the ideas behind A2Cloud are to:

  • Provide a couple of virtual “hard drives” — even for the IIc — courtesy of David Schmidt’s VSDRIVE.
  • Make it easy to get an Apple II — even a IIc — on the internet to be able to download software and do other stuff.
  • Be able to use any software you download immediately, either in a virtual hard drive, or by making it easy to transfer it to a floppy with David Schmidt’s ADTPro.
  • Blog about other ways a Raspberry Pi can make an Apple II more enjoyable.
  • Have it all be as easy as possible, even for Unix/Linux newcomers.

Open Apple #30 (Sep 2013): Charles Mangin, Jobs movie, Tetris, and S-Prize

Charles ManginThis month on Open Apple, the Apple II community’s only monthly podcast, Mike and Ken chat with Charles Mangin, the mad scientist who puts Mac Minis inside Apple II cases and inventor of the RetroConnector. It’s our first show since KansasFest, and we share our highlights and favorite products and announcements from the show. The Steve Jobs film is now out, and Ashton Kutcher and Steve Wozniak have words while critics publish their own mixed reviews. However, we have nothing but praise for Walter Isaacson’s biography, and Steve Wozniak gets his own moment in the spotlight courtesy interviews with the Verge and Game Informer. We’re super-psyched that Eric Shepherd has established the S-Prize — how big will the pot grow before some enterprising programmer claims it?

Find the show at the Open Apple Web site or in the iTunes and Zune podcast directories.

Brutal Deluxe Software releases BenchmarkeD

Paris, September 1st, 2013 – Brutal Deluxe Software is proud to introduce BenchmarkeD to the Apple II community.

BenchmarkeD

BenchmarkeD is a benchmark utility for the Apple IIgs. It allows you to calculate the average throughput in reading and writing files and sequential disk blocks of your ProDOS volumes. BenchmarkeD uses standard GS/OS routines to perform its tests.

Until now, there were no such utilities for the Apple IIgs. Nowadays, disk devices are USB sticks or Compact Flash cards, physical devices such as hard disk drives or 3.5″ drives are no longer used. It is time to determine the fastest device to get the best experience with modern storage devices.

Download BenchmarkeD at http://www.brutaldeluxe.fr/products/apple2gs/benchmarked.html and share your results with us!
