Hey everyone, I just wanted to share with you a small preview of a game I’ve been working on. It’s a lo-res, vertically scrolling shooter that will run on any 48k Apple II. Yes, the graphics are extremely blocky and a bit ugly, but I thought it’d be a fun way to learn 6502 assembly on the Apple II. It’s not quite ready for release, but when it’s done I’ll make it available to anyone interested.

Oh, and if you watch the video, I recommend keeping the size small as it’s easier on the eyes. I know this isn’t Game of the Year material, so please be kind! :)

Poof! The GEnie is out of the bottle in time for KansasFest 2016 as Mac GUI Vault now holds the Apple II GEnie and Delphi software and RoundTable archives. Both of these online services were central to the Apple II world and were used by thousands of Apple II subscribers in the 1980s and 90s.

The GEnie discussion RoundTables, A2 and A2Pro, are now online. Reading these archives gives one a more complete view of the Apple II world of the 1990s and early 2000s, and forms an interesting parallel to the discussions in the Usenet newsgroups.

Furthermore, the software libraries of GEnie and Delphi are also online at Mac GUI Vault and come complete with their original text descriptions and comments.

To celebrate KansasFest 2016 (and commiserate with other non-attendees) I’m proud to announce WOzFest $04 will be held on Saturday 23 July, kicking off at around midday.

At 1400 AEST we’ll try and get a video hookup with any KansasFest insomniacs (it’ll be 2300 CDT 22 July there) and share the KFest vibe.

Potential projects include ESR testing of PSU capacitors (feel free to bring some along), software preservation, assessment of some complete Apple //e education systems Jeremy from Canberra has recently secured from his high school Maths teacher, disk drive maintenance/recovery, and anything else people bring with them or decide on the day!

The usual munchies and cider will be present, with an expected dinner of pizza.

I expect it will be more low-key than WOzFest /// – but as I discovered last time around, anything can happen in 3 short weeks!
