Volume 23, Issue 2 (Jun 2018) of Juiced.GS, the longest-running Apple II publication in print, has now shipped.

This month on Open Apple, the Apple II community’s only monthly podcast, Mike and Ken chat with Mike Willegal, Apple-1 and Apple II reproduction expert extraordinaire. His topic is hot this month: five Apple-1 computers were simultaneously on display at the History San Jose museum; one is being auctioned online; Willegal was interviewed for a Kickstarter-funded book about the Apple-1; and his clones are appearing in a feature-length film about Steve Jobs — what a guy! He even went to Vintage Computer Festival Southeast this spring, though he’ll be absent from VCF Southwest, KansasFest, and Oz KFest, all occurring this summer. Mike, Mike, and Ken watch the trailer for the Jobs movie and find we all have different reasons to see (or skip) Ashton Kutcher in the title role. They may or may not have dressed up to see the recent Star Trek and Man of Steel films; maybe they’ll fit the part by wearing some Apple t-shirts from 1986 to see Jobs.

This month on Open Apple, Mike and Ken speak with Martin Haye, 8-bit programmer extraordinare. We love us some conventions, be they KansasFest, the Vintage Computer Festival, @party, ROFLCon, or WordCamp. We wonder why video games have abandoned humor and if Kickstarter can bring it back. Steve Wozniak is advising the Steve Jobs film — no, not the one in which Ashton Kutcher will play Steve Jobs, but that raises the question: who will play the hosts of Open Apple? On eBay, we’re suspicious of an Apple IIe that was supposedly once Jobs’, and we wish there were a more comprehensive online resource for Apple II clones.

According to this Reuters report, Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak has been hired to act as an advisor on the new Steve Jobs biopic.  No, not that one.  This is the film currently being written by Aaron Sorkin and backed by Sony Pictures.  Woz’s role is being described as that of “tutor” for the technical aspects of the computers to be used in the film, as well as Jobs himself.

Today would have been Steve Jobs’ 57th birthday and The Unofficial Apple Weblog has posted a nice set of videos in remembrance.   Check them out here.

The website Seven Days, which bills itself as Vermont’s independent voice, has a nice interview with early Apple employee and industrial designer Jerry Manock.  As expected, most of the interview is about Jerry’s relationship with his former boss Steve Jobs.  Manock, who is credited with the design of most aspects of the Apple II outside the circuit board and logic, as well as the form of the Disk II drive, worked closely with Jobs on the case design of the ill-fated Apple ///, and the Macintosh.

More precisely,  a Special Merit Award.  The Recording Academy yesterday released its annual list of Grammy Award nominees and at the same time, the 2012 Special Merit Awards recipients.  This year’s list includes the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.  Jobs will posthumously receive the Trustee Award at a special invitation-only ceremony to be held during Grammy Week on Feb. 11, 2012.  A formal acknowledgment will be made during the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast, which will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, and broadcast live at 8 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network.

A statue of the late Apple co-founder has been unveiled in Budapest. According to the PR Newswire release found here, "the statue is the first in the world honoring the late founder of Apple, who passed away on October 5. Crafted by Hungarian sculptor Erno Toth, the life-like bronze statue stands near the entrance of architectural software maker GRAPHISOFT’s Budapest headquarters." The statue was commissioned by GRAPHISOFT Founder and Chairman of the Board, Gabor Bojar.
