The AppleSqueezer GS, a combination Apple IIGS accelerator and memory expansion card, has just received a major hardware upgrade.

As announced by its developer Niek van Suchtelen on Facebook and his blog, the card now features an HDMI port for video output. Although still considered a beta feature, it already supports both 640×200 and 320×200 resolutions. Other modes, such as text display, will be added in a free future update.

The card has also been redesigned to be much sleeker. This is important, because although neither version of the AppleSqueezer GS occupies a slot, the previous version was large enough that it could obstruct some other cards from being installed.

There has also been a slight speed boost of the accelerator features compared to the v1. Only the expanded memory features remain exactly the same as the original model. (DMA support remains impossible.)

The AppleSqueezer GS v2 can be preordered through VanSuchtelen’s store for €295 (about US$320). The store is included in A2Central.com’s hardware vendor directory.

The original AppleSqueezer GS was reviewed in Juiced.GS Volume 27, Issue 4 (December 2022), where Peter Neubauer concluded, “It makes the IIGS more enjoyable to use, and I feel that the accelerated experience is what the computer’s designers wanted. The AppleSqueezer has a permanent home in my IIGS.”
