When Open Apple debuted in 2011, it became the Apple II community’s first co-hosted audio podcast. Em Maginnis co-hosted the show with Ken Gagne (me!) for three years, after which Em co-hosted with Quinn Dunki. The show’s last normal, original episode aired seven years ago, in July 2018.
Since then, nine audio files have been released on the podcast feed, consisting of either recordings from events such as KansasFest or the Portland Retro Gaming Expo; tributes to late members of the community; or unearthed, lost episodes.
But this week, all three of the show’s co-hosts reunited to record a new episode of Open Apple in the style of the original show: catching up on each other’s lives, discussing the upcoming KansasFest and INIT HELLO conferences, recalling how uncomfortably loud early dot-matrix printers were, highlighting eBay picks, and debating which movie actor played Steve Jobs the best.
Open Apple #87: The 2025 Episode is available now on all your favorite podcatchers, as well as below:
The hosts promise that this episode is a one-off and does not mark a relaunch or reboot of the show. We’ll see.
