After months of previews on reddit and Facebook, the 8-bit game Escape from Castle Dracenstein is now available from Semi Rad Productions.
This text-adventure game is set in the 1980s and challenges the player, who has gotten lost while returning a VHS tape to Blockbuster Video, to escape a castle inhabited by the likes of Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s Creature, the Wolfman, and other classic B-horror movie monsters.

Escape from Castle Dracenstein was developed entirely in Applesoft BASIC by Jeremy Reichmänner and works on any Apple II Plus, IIe, IIc, or IIGS with at least 64K RAM.

A physical edition, which costs US$29.99 plus shipping within the United States, includes a 5.25″ floppy disk, printed manual, sticker, certificate of reading completion, and box. A free digital edition comes with a 140K DOS 3.3 DSK image and ten-page PDF manual. The ZIP file can be downloaded directly from the Semi Rad Productions product listing — no registration, checkout, or purchase necessary.

Semi Rad Productions, which also developed the free game Maze Gunner, has been added to A2Central.com’s software vendor directory. Check out all the other games and utilities on offer from these and other developers!
