Colin Leroy-Mira, famed developer of Shufflepuck Cafe for the Apple II, has broadened his scope into hardware. His current project is the BurgerDisk, a microSD adapter that works on the Apple IIc while still allowing floppy drives to remain active. BurgerDisk works on any natively SmartPort-enabled Apple II, including the IIGS, and should work with third-party SmartPort cards like the SoftSP.
Leroy-Mira has launched a Kickstarter to fund preorders of the drive, which includes the required cable and female DB19 connector. Among the campaign’s rewards are a fully assembled BurgerDisk in a white enclosure for €120, with DIY kits, enclosures, and microSD cards available at lower tiers or as add-ons. A black BurgerDisk (which neatly complements a Bell & Howell “Darth Vader” Apple II Plus) is the highest tier, at €130. Shipping to the USA costs an additional €65, ostensibly due to tariffs. Delivery of all rewards is expected in April 2026.
The Kickstarter has already reached its €1,000 fundraising goal, meaning the campaign will be successful and all pledges will be collected when crowdfunding closes on Tuesday, March 2.
Anyone who wants to build their own BurgerDisk can find the open-source schematics in GitHub, with more details available in the user manual.
